Distinguishing Ghosts from Spirits

This time of year the airwaves are flooded with ghost, ghouls, and everything else that goes bump in the night. This can cause some confusion and blurred lines, especially when they are all portrayed as evil spirits. So let’s take a moment to distinguish between ghosts, earthbound spirits, and crossed-over spirits.

Ghosts

First let’s take a look at ghosts, since they are the most popular entities this season. A Ghost is human soul energy that has left its body, however for any number of reasons the residual energy lingers in the physical realm. Ghosts are essentially trapped energy. The energy does not necessarily have to be from a deceased person, just a person who has left a space, tainting the area with traces of their energy. In most cases the presence of a ghost will be indicated by a dense heavy feeling. The more recent the event emotional or spiritual that left the ghost energy behind the greater the feeling of denseness will be.

Earthbound spirits

Next let’s take a look at earthbound spirits. Unlike ghosts, earthbound spirits have divorced themselves from a physical body by the process of death. However the soul energy has not crossed over into the afterlife, but stays instead in the spirit realm. Since earthbound spirits are human soul energy, they require human energy to remain existing in their current state. Due to this they are most often found in hospitals, homes, and cemeteries. When in the presence of an earthbound spirit you may feel afraid, anxious, and sometimes even cold. However this does not indicate that the spirit is malicious, only that the spirit is worries or confused.

Crossed-over Spirits

Unlike earthbound spirits, crossed-over spirits have transitioned from the living body to death and then into the afterlife. These spirits are fully in the light. They may be a deceased person, a spirit guide, an angle, or any other type of energy existing completely in the spirit realm. A crossed-over spirit will feel vastly different from an earthbound spirit. Their presence will feel warm and exciting.

Keep in mind that no matter what type of energy you encounter, there are ways to communicate and even aid them. Not everything that lingers is evil and may just need a little direction.
