Saturday, September 22nd at 9:54 pm summer will slip away into fall as the sun crosses over the celestial equator. This occasion is known as the Autumn Equinox. The word equinox comes from Latin and means “equality of night and day.” While there is a difference between an equinox and a solstice, both occasions are observed as a time of transition and power. If you missed the Summer Solstice celebrations don’t worry, we have a few suggestions to help you celebrate the Autumn Equinox.
Make a Thankfulness List
The autumnal equinox is a time of harvest. Make a list of everything you are thankful for as a way of reaping your inner harvest. Gratitude makes you appreciate the value of something, and when you appreciate the value of something, you extract more benefits from it; you’re less likely to take it for granted. People who are grateful tend to be more helpful and empathic, more spiritual and religious, more forgiving, and less materialistic than others who are less predisposed to gratefulness. This time of harvest both physical and spiritual is a great time to express your gratitude.
Restore Balance
The equinox is when the night and day are divided equally, this is a great time for looking at where our lives and homes may be out of balance. Balance is crucial to our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing because without it we can feel as if we are running as fast as we can only remaining in the same spot or else feel we are strapped into a rollercoaster which we are unable to get off as we scramble ever-more frantically to keep pace with our busy lives. Restore balance in the home by doing a fall deep cleaning. Get rid of anything that you no longer need to make space for the new season. Make time for a Balance Meditation to help mend your spiritual lopsidedness.
Honor the Dark Mother
This is the time of the Dark Mother, the Crone aspect of the triple goddess. The goddess is bearing this time not a basket of flowers, but a sickle and scythe. She is prepared to reap what has been sown. The earth dies a little each day, and we must embrace this slow descent into dark before we can truly appreciate the light that will return in a few months. Take a few moments to meditate on the darker aspects of your own soul. Is there a pain you’ve been longing to get rid of? Is there anger and frustration that you’ve been unable to move past? Is there someone who’s hurt you, but you haven’t told them how you feel? Now is the time to take this energy and turn it to your own purposes.
